PATRICA HEATON - ACTRESS

Working with Donna has completely changed the way I purchase jewelry.  In a word, she makes the whole transaction simple.  It's a combination of service, industry knowledge and ability to provide various options at great pricing.  For my last watch purchase, I explained what I was looking for, received pictures of multiple great options, made a selection and had the watch in my office the next day.  Basically, did everything from my phone.  Amazing experience, and the only person I'll go to for jewelry.

CHAD SCHWARZ - ATTORNEY, DALLAS, TEXAS

Donna has been my go to person through the entire ring picking process.  She has guided me with such wisdom and understanding of what I truly want.  Her expertise in design and quality facilitated me in picking exactly what I wanted.  My wife fell in love with the ring at first sight.  Thank you, Donna for your undying effort and grace, which turned a potentially stressful event into a fun experience.  You’re the best!

DAVID FABRIZIO - FABRIZIO PHYSICAL THERAPY & SPORTS MEDICINE, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

I must confess to being a little intimidated by the idea of going to a jewelry wholesaler, for all kinds of reasons, chief among them was the fact that I did not really know what I was doing in terms of investing in any kind of jewelry. Donna put my fears to rest. She was highly knowledgeable as well as being kind and funny, and she led me through the process with great patience and aplomb. She has great taste and will work with any budget, and give you all the options you could ever wish for. She is a delight to work with...

How To Choose The Perfect Diamond

GIA SCALE

CHOOSING YOUR STONE

Every diamond is unique. None is absolutely perfect under 10× magnification, though some come close. Known as Flawless diamonds, these are exceptionally rare. Most jewelers have never even seen one.

The GIA Clarity Scale contains 11 grades, with most diamonds falling into the VS (very slightly included) or SI (slightly included) categories. In determining a clarity grade, the GIA system considers the size, nature, position, color or relief, and quantity of clarity characteristics visible under 10× magnification.

  • Flawless (FL) - No inclusions or blemishes are visible to a skilled grader using 10× magnification

  • Internally Flawless (IF) - No inclusions and only blemishes are visible to a skilled grader using 10× magnification

  • Very, Very Slightly Included (VVS1 and VVS2) - Inclusions are difficult for a skilled grader to see under 10× magnification

  • Very Slightly Included (VS1 and VS2) - Inclusions are minor and range from difficult to somewhat easy for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification

  • Slightly Included (SI1 and SI2) - Inclusions are noticeable to a skilled grader under 10x magnification

  • Included (I1, I2, and I3) - Inclusions are obvious under 10× magnification and may affect transparency and brilliance

Fancy colored diamonds are usually cut to maximize the intensity of their color, rather then to maximize light return. The best cut is one that gives the most attractive face of color. On GIA color diamond reports , colored diamonds are graded in order of increasing color strength as seen in the chart below. Diamonds that have more color than a "Z" grade are Fancy Light Yellow. Lighter shades are more affordable than colorless diamonds, but are more rare.

The 4 C's

CHOOSING YOUR STONE

There are four qualities of diamonds considered for grading. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat, "The 4 C's.”

Cut being most important, the better the cut, the more sparkle and brilliance. With a poor cut, the diamond appears dull. Whatever your budget, always choose the highest cut, VG (very good) or better.

Color, the second most important. The less color, the higher the grade it receives. While color distinctions are subtle and invisible to the naked eye, it makes an important difference in the quality and price of the diamond. Always choose what is referred to as a near-colorless diamond.

Clarity refers to the imperfections, called inclusions, which also cannot be seen by the naked eye. The smaller the inclusions, the higher the grade and the better the clarity. Always choose a diamond referred to as eye clean.

Carat weight measures the diamond’s weight, not the size.  The  cut of a diamond impacts how large the weight of the diamond appears. A smaller diamond will appear larger with a higher cut grade. You might want to consider choosing a diamond slightly under your desired weight, i.e. a 1.9 carat instead of a 2.0 to maximize your budget.

When choosing your diamond, know that each shape has different characteristics that determine the quality. Colored stones can be natural or enhanced, known as heat-treated and should be set in material that will enhance the color of the stone. Natural stones are higher in price and value and, harder, to find.

A diamond grading report is known as a Certificate which is evaluated, measured and graded by a Gemologist, most commonly the GIA, Gemological Institute of America. Please refer to the scale above.
